An Introduction to Botox

Most of us would like to look younger, but we do not have the time or the inclination to have cosmetic surgery. In recent years however, a procedure that offers dramatic changes without surgery or long recovery periods, has gained popularity.

Botulinum toxin A injections, or Botox therapy, as it is more commonly known, was the top cosmetic procedure performed in 2001. Considering how safe and effective it is in treating facial wrinkles such as frown lines and crow's feet, it is no wonder that men and women are increasingly choosing Botox to combat the signs of aging.

Botox is by no means a new treatment. It has been used worldwide since 1980 to treat misalignment of the eyes and eyelid spasms. But while it has long been approved for the treatment of certain medical conditions, in the U.S., it has only recently been approved by the Food and Drug Administration for cosmetic purposes.

Botox is a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, the culprit behind botulism food poisoning. However, because you receive only the smallest of doses in specifically targeted muscles, Botox treatment is not harmful.

If you are tired of the way wrinkles make you feel and look, it may be time to consider Botox treatment. At our center, we will personally assess your cosmetic needs and determine the right course of treatment for you.
