Restylane Injections
Restylane is a natural substance which is used as a cosmetic
dermal filler that promises to restore volume to your skin
and correct facial wrinkles and folds. It is made of a clear
gel called NASHA (Non-Animal Stabilized Hyaluronic Acid).
This acid is also a natural substance which already exists
in our bodies.
When we are young, hyaluronic acid (a gel-like substance),
is found in abundance between the layers of our skin. However,
as we grow older, the quantity starts to decrease. Certain
areas of the skin somewhat cave in and form a wrinkle. If
that area were to be filled back up with hyaluronic acid,
then the wrinkle would be gone. Hence, restylane injections
are a possible alternative. The substance is simply injected
with a thin needle into the necessary areas. In no time at
all (approximately 30 minutes), you will notice that the natural
volume of your skin is restored where once there was a wrinkle.
Everyone wants to know if there are any side effects
to Restylane injections. Restylane has a very low number of
side effects which rarely occur. Some of the more common side
effects include:
- pain
- redness of skin
- swelling
- itching
- discoloration
- tenderness where needle was injected
In most cases, these side effects disappear after a couple
of days.
Other side effects which are listed below are even rarer
(approximately 1 in every 2000 patient):
- swelling at the point of injection (which is thought to
occur because of hypersensitivity)
- tenderness
- redness
- acne-like formations
Are Restylane injections different
from Botox? The answer is yes.
While they both aim to rid the skin
of wrinkles, they go about it in
different ways. As stated before,
Restylane is a natural cosmetic
filler which smoothes out the wrinkles
and restores volume and fullness
to the skin. Botox is a drug that
blocks nerve transmissions and relaxes
the underlying muscles thereby decreasing
the formation of wrinkles.
